SURF OBSERVATIONS
Sticking It Out -- 5/10/03

A little bumpy but fun

Date: May 10, 2003
Time: 0545--0845
Spot(s): Diamond Head
Conditions: Strong sideshores, medium crowd
Swell: Mostly tradewind swell with a touch of remnant south
Surf: 2-3'+ Haw'n

Words: Surf was looking to be unremarkable, so I decided to once again try the shortboard. My skills are still comical at best, with some spectacular cannonball takeoffs and wipeouts. However, some rides actually came together. Had at least five top-turns on one wave, and even pulled into a small one that ended up washing me off after a few seconds.

When I walked back up the cliff, I was pleasantly surprised to meet up once again with John Cater and Goro Sulijoadikusumo. The three of us worked to help save Diamond Head parking last summer and we reflected on our efforts. It was hard work, but our success proved that great things could be accomplished with persistence and dedication.

Aloha from Paradise,

stickman
