SURF OBSERVATIONS
Nothing Much -- 4/3/04

Aoi, schooling me

Date: April 3, 2004
Time: 0630--0800, 0830--0930
Spot(s): Pipeline and Haleiwa
Conditions: Unstable air, somewhat onshore; fairly light crowds
Swell: Between swells
Surf: 2-4'+ Haw'n

Words: Bodyboarded Pipe at dawn. Fun waves with the occasional big set. Pro bodyboarders Aoi Koike from Japan and Geraldine Gogin of Peru were schooling me with proper barrel-riding technique. I had a few, but nothing worth mentioning.

Met up with Buddy and Rich at Haleiwa. The lineup there is just so frustrating to me, but that didn't stop me from trying. Got caught inside countless times and ended up not catching a single wave on my shortboard. On the bright side, at least I got some heavy paddling in. Kaipo Jaquias was out, casually getting in position and tearing it up.

Both sessions were nothing much, but you know what, they were still great.

Aloha from Paradise,
stickman
