SURF OBSERVATIONS
Cloudy -- 2/26/05

Isaac Kaneshiro was tearing it up early

Date: February 26, 2005
Time: 0645--1100
Spot(s): Lani's
Conditions: Overcast, rainy, firm side-onshores, smooth faces
Swell: Mostly short-period NNW with semi-windswell on top
Surf: 2-4' Haw'n

Words: Kept my expectations low and ended up having a fun time in mediocre conditions. A combo NNW with a semi-windswell system produced some peaky surf. Winds were firm, but the wave faces were surprisingly smooth. It was so cloudy, I bet a lot of folks didn't go out because of that--their loss.

Most waves reared up with an exciting takeoff, then just died with no wall. Still had fun on the shortboard, learning, improving.

Last wave was the best: takeoff on the outside peak, wound down a fun wall, turn back onto the inside where it reared up, took the safe route around most of the hollow section, proned in. Still got a long way's to go on confidence, but am having fun on the stick.
