SURF OBSERVATIONS
Kooking in SD -- 7/14/05

Good for some

Date: July 14, 2005
Time: 1600--1800
Spot(s): W/S
Conditions: Side-onshore and slightly messy
Swell: Mixed swell
Surf: 6-8' faces

Words: Blew the morning dawn patrol by oversleeping. Heard it was blown. Worked kept me there for one more day, so after securing reservation changes (not an easy task since the Comic-Con was in town), I made it to W/S.

The south was definitely on the increase, with more lines coming in. Crowd was quite a bit more intense (actually, it was like I expected it should be). There were noticeably more bodyboarders in the lineup--seems like there have been some clashing between boardriders in recent months.

I plain sucked on this session. Could not get into waves. The ones I did catch, I got flushed on. It was pretty embarrassing, really.

There were two highlights though to my kookfest. Took off on a late one, turned the board mid-face and made the drop, pumping down a nice wall. On another, I nearly made a re-entry on the inside on a decent sized one.

However, those were the exceptions to the rule. It was more a comedy of "donkeydom" out there for me. During the session, one guy bailed right in front of me (probably on purpose), nearly gutting me. Ended up tangled up together for several waves and dinged BA's board.

Momma told me there'd be days like this.

Aloha from Paradise,
stickman
