SURF OBSERVATIONS
Plumerias for Malik -- 12/04/05

My small rememberance to Malik

Date: December 4, 2005
Time: 0600--0930
Spot(s): Pipeline
Conditions: Little rainy but pretty clean
Swell: Nadir between swells
Surf: 2-4' Haw'n

Words: The death of Malik Joyeaux just two days prior still numbed and shocked me. Joyeaux, a competent surfer from Tahiti, was surfing big, but not terribly outrageous Pipeline when a wave apparently landed on him, taking him under. He was found 15 minutes later but could not be revived.

In the video Solid, Joyeaux can be seen being interviewed with a plumeria behind one ear. So before I went out, I found some plumeria flowers and brought it to the lineup. Rest in peace.

Pipe/BD was small, but fun. Caught some fun ones anyway. Everyone was low-keyed.

Aloha from Paradise,
stickman
