Wendall Aoki at the HASA state championships

Wendall Aoki is the president and contest director of the Hawaii Amateur Surfing Association (HASA). This is what he had to say about the construction that would eliminate some parking along Diamond Head Road (6/9/02):

"Losing the parking would affect all the competitors in finding parking, and if you're gonna lose those stalls just for the runners and bikers, then it would make more sense to put the pathway on the inside (mauka side) of the roadway where it'll tie into the sidewalks on the opposite side of Diamond Head so that the runners and bikers don't have to cross back and forth to go over on the other side of the road when you get up by Ruger."
